EATING ON VACATION

Last week I travelled to Huntington Beach, California with friends to compete at the first TYR Wodapalooza SoCal CrossFit competition.

Eating well while travelling can be challenging, but it is also very doable.

Here are a few takeaways from our travels to California that will help you stay on track with your nutrition goals:

1. Front load your protein. If you know you are going to be out and about all day - make sure you are eating a protein rich breakfast. Don't let yourself fall short on protein.

2. If possible, stay at an Airbnb so you can cook your own food. Most Airbnb’s will have a full kitchen set up!

3. If you do decide to stay at a hotel, go the grocery store and get healthy foods and snacks. Most hotel rooms have a small fridge available.

Some of my favourite snacks to get when I'm staying at a hotel are:

- Turkey pepperoni sticks

- Bottled protein shakes

- Blueberries

- Cucumbers

- Bananas

- High fiber protein bars

4. Don't be afraid to request a custom order at a restaurant if you have to eat out. Most kitchens will be happy to accommodate - but they can't unless you ask! Request plain chicken breast or steak, with a baked potato and steamed veggies. If you want a salad, get the dressing and extras on the side.

It's easier than you think to stay on track with your nutrition goals while travelling, as long as you make the effort and commit!

Cheers and Happy Snacking!
