GOAL SETTING
80% of people quit their workout routine within the first 5 months (clevelandclinic). This means if you have been with us at CrossFit Barrie for 2 years you have lasted 5 times longer than 80% of people who start their fitness journey.
People who walk into the gym always seem to have an initial purpose, motivation, or goal that makes them take action. Perhaps you need to lose weight for an upcoming event, you’re looking to reduce your cholesterol levels, battle depression or get off your prescription medications.
But over time, that motivation that made us take action inevitably means less or goes away all together. You feel like you no longer have the motivation when the event happens, or the cholesterol levels return to normal.
We then get left with two options:
Option A - Keep going to the gym out of habit. However without purpose or a goal, you may start to slip and eventually stop attending.
Option B - Find another short term goal
Does option 2 really work? of course! If you can find another goal - whether fitness or health related or maybe it’s a milestone outside the gym you’re looking to accomplish - it can fuel your fire to continue your fitness journey!
Using this approach will start to shape everything you do and how we can better serve and coach you - towards YOUR goal.
The question always seems to be how do we make a goal?
Sit down with a piece of paper and a pen, then start to think about things you’d like to accomplish - perhaps you want to be strong enough to complete a difficult hike, you want to improve a certain gymnastics skill, perhaps you want to be able to run a half marathon.
Once you’ve though about it, ensure your goal is specific to what you want to achieve, measurable, attainable, realistic and that you have a timeline as to when you’d like to complete it.
If you’re unsure of where to start, speak to one of the CrossFit Barrie coaches, they will be happy to help!
Happy Goal Setting!
