MOTIVATION IS NOT THE ISSUE

Motivation usually gets you started. Whether that’s with achieving a new goal, implementing a fitness routine or starting a nutrition program. However, motivation alone is not enough. Motivation has to be paired with commitment and discipline.

The majority of us work the 9-5 hours or shift work and workout 3-6x a week for 30-90 minutes. After a work shift, we make our way home and relax on the couch. As we’re on the sofa flipping through Netflix or Prime, we may find a binge worthy show and think we need some snacks. We grab a small snack - a bag of rice chips or popcorn. You have the portion you planned on having, but then you talk yourself into thinking you deserve more because your day or week has been busy and stressful. You continue to eat and the next thing you know the bag is empty. If this is you, you are NOT alone.

This happens because of our environment and we will over eat when we are distracted. If you have the discipline to set your home up for success by avoiding purchasing processed foods, you can make healthy eating choices and avoid temptation.

SMALL changes will make a BIG difference, and this requires commitment - setting up your environment at home, planning your meals before you go out to a party and saying no to the 2nd bowl of ice cream.

Not everyday will be perfect but our goal isn’t perfection. It’s to slowly build a healthier relationship with food. You will not be motivated everyday, and it’s not motivation that will get you to the finish line.

We have to put effort in on those days that we’re not motivated. We want to work towards daily discipline and do things even when we aren’t feeling it. Be okay with yourself when some days are less ideal. It’s all about the journey.
